First (proper) gig options

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,
now my new band is having it's first formal gig. This is the first band I've been in that has stayed on track to get to a gig that is (semi)-self organised.

Just wondering what people think I should do for the live sound.

I'll be using a GK 400RB (the 90's model) through my 4x10" cab.
We're a rock band that falls on funk/blue influences. (So slap bass is in use in a few songs, along with the occasional envelope filter and muff distortion )

But anyway, the 400RB has a Direct Out, I assume that can act as a DI and go straight to the mixer or whatever. Is it a good idea to use that or is it better to have it mic'ed up? (They have all the mics and stuff there)

Cheers

Seems as though you're covered okay. As far as what goes on at this gig, if you're running your own sound, you can DI to the board or mic your cab. If there's a soundman there, go with whatever route is preferred by them.

I played a show a few weeks ago and when we were setting up, the dude running the board asked if I had a G-K head because he apparently had some not-so-great experiences with their DI's. Didn't get any details, but I use an Ampeg preamp and all was fine with the DI on that.

The thing I like about running a DI is that I can noodle with my eq and stage volume if necessary without affecting what's going out to the board (as long as my DI is set "pre eq"). One way or another, I'd say you're covered.

Sound check will reveal which way to go.
