Flight Cases

Wasn't sure where to put this. What is the best place to go to for flight cases, used or new? besides craigslist and ebay.

Need racks, and also bass flight case.

I don't know about your "where to buy?" question. But,I do know what brand to buy. I'm VERY BIASED. But for good reason!! Check it....

Calzone Cases

I truly stand by this brand. I can't say enough about 'em. Great, great stuff. I've had the majority of my Calzone cases for my effects racks, mixing board, cases for all my basses, amps, mics, cables, and cabs since the mid-80's. I've beat'em,bang'em,they've been exposed to more weather than a hooker in a hurricane. Not to mention that the bands I've been in over the decades has moved AT LEAST 2-3 times a month. A few scrapes here & there, but look at it this way...... At the very least,2 moves per month, every month, for OVER 25 years. All the big pro-sound companies use Calzone Cases.

So yeah, they may cost a little more than most. I purchased 90% of'em ALL AT ONCE (Small fortune!!) But I'll be damned if I ain't got my money's worth, for sure!

You could also check out Brady Cases. He's building me a custom rack right now. A few guitarists I play with have pedalboards and cases from Brady. Great company.

I know he can build a custom flight case to fit whatever bass(es) you have too.

Brady Cases - Welcome

Contact a local backline rental or touring PA rental company and find out who's building their cases. There are TONS of small builders around doing killer custom work.

The quality of the case you choose is really dependent on how you intend to use it: if you're just loading gear into your van for local gigs and the occasional UHaul tour then your needs will differ greatly from those who plan to have their gear packed on trucks by stagehands repeatedly or shipped via air carriers. For the latter not only do you need a case built to ATA Spec (more specifically, ATA Spec 300/Category 1), but you want that case to be as light as possible since weight increases freight costs. Well designed cases can actually pay for themselves over their life cycle in that respect.

That said I've been a fan and user of A&S cases for many years.

SKB and Gator are good quality cases for rack equipment as well as bass cases. Carvin also offers decently priced rack cases. YMMV.

I use Opticase or Keal cases for all my road stuff and it's held up after years of service as good as Anvil or Calzone but they were local, faster and easier to get custom work.

For lighter duty you can always go with SKB or other more available brands but they are far from bullet proof like and actual "road case" or "Flight Case" standards.

Check out Mark and Liz. They don't have cases for everything but what they have is better and cheaper/

I've also had fantastic luck with non-music casses... I have 8 ata rated locking stackable cases that were used for laptop computers.. had to reorient the foam -- all worked out great afterward.

Really digging all of the casses being the same size.. sure helps on packing logistics.

If you're on a budget check out rondomusic.com. I have a flight case pedalboard from them and it's pretty tough. Cost me about $80 with shipping.
