I had to send my X3 back to line6 for a factory repair(out of warranty too ) but my band is opening for Bootsy next friday and I dont know if I will need to rent an SVT head or not. Can anyone tell me how to use a standard DI as a preamp? I use a crown xti4000 power amp with SWR 8x10 megoliath cab. The crown only has XLR inputs. How would(could) I wire that?

Not sure if it would drive the amp but I think there are folks doing it. A good Sansamp DI should serve your purpose very well and it's a simple XLR out making that connection as easy as a mic cable. Certainly not as versatile as a head or rackmount pre would be but I bet you wouldn't be disappointed.
