Going Amp-less and distortion/fuzz

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey there!

I'm considering leaving my amp at home and just going DI for gigs.

Now I love to use distortion, and while playing around during rehearsals and at home at the computer, I noticed that most distortions sound like sewing machines, while they sound fine through an amp.

Now I was wondering which kind of solutions there are for me.
Will a Sansamp RBI/BDDI preamp rectify that situation, or would a BassVT, which has Speaker emulation be the way to go?

Thanks in advance for taking time to read/answer

A boss bass distortion pedal through SansAmp Bass Driver DI sounds great.

But the distortion itself plugged in direct sounds like a 'sewing machine'!

Also, if any of you is using a Radial Bassbone to go direct, I would love some comments on this.

The VT Bass will work. Can't comment on the RBI or BDDI, but I suspect they also have some kind of speaker simulation.

I have been also considering a similar option. In fact I start a thread about it. You can find it here. Some interesting suggestions here as well. Please share with us our thoughts and of course your choice.
