is this a good idea?

the singer currently has no amplification system so we thought we'd buy a little PA like system for band practices and run the bass and guitar through it too. so thats the active speaker they have found in our budget. we plan to run it with a mixer.
so do you think its a good idea to practice through these speakers (one for for now and then we buy another one after another gig) we need to run two vocal mics and a guitar and a bass and a keyboard through them without any rigs (to keep the volume low and everything really clear in a small practice room that we have)

the bass, guitar, keyboards would be going in direct from our pedal boards to the mixers. we do not want to practice really loud, the drums would be unmic'd. the point is to hear the approximate live mix of the band while practicing.

the webpage says that the speaker's frequency response is 60-18000 hz but the fundamental freq. of low E on my bass is like 40hz so would it handle all my low notes well? i dont play a fiver right now but i might be buying one so..?

please tell me what you think about this. i am personally really not sure if its going to really work well so any adivce would really be great!

thanks

Hi.

If it meets Your needs is entirely up to your demands IMHO.

Personally I wouldn't use anything less than 15"+1" actives (at least not anymore )from these "budget" manufacturers, the SPL levels just don't cut it.

We have two of the similar (same?) T-Box or something like that, actives and we have gigged with them too in the smaller pubs. While adequate for vocals, I would hesitate to put anything else there. The ability to double as monitors adds their value considerably.

Keys might cut it if the keyboardist is light with the left arm and/or doesn't use low synth too much.

Bass won't cut it unless the drummer is using straws and wooly sock over the kick hammer . The advertized power is music power I believe so divide that by three...
The 15" version might be better, but I doubt by much.

I do remember that You said that the used market for bass gear is almost nonexistant over there, but a dedicated bass amp of some sort is a must if the SPL rises to anything over the conversation level.

Regards
Sam

+1!

I play through a small system with a pair of Yamaha cabs - 12" + horns - but that's with a grand piano and the three of us singing. No drums. And that's typically only for rehearsals when my gear is elsewhere. I can't imagine you'd hear yourself well enough with a drummer, and I don't really see how you'd get an approximate live sound.

Sorry to sound so negative... I hope you get it worked out!

I wouldn't put the bass and guitar through them, but they should be fine for vocals. The low end of the bass and guitar are just going to chew up headroom.
