Good Sounding Drum Machine

Recently, my band broke up, leaving me and the guitarist/vocalist without a drummer. We've been doing our gigs (usually smaller-ish bars) with a patchwork of fill ins, nobody that we would want to work with in the long run. We discussed testing out some drum machines for these gigs. The guitarist did some research and decided that the Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-880 looked solid, so we went to GC to try it out. It was a good machine with lots of options, but it still sounded too fake. We want to buy a drum machine with the intention of using it live, but we can't have something fake sounding (it doesn't need to be spot on real, it is a drum MACHINE afterall). I was wondering if there were any real good sounding drum machines out there that any of you guys have used live.

The Alesis SR-16 has some really good sounds. Alesis hasn't changed it in over 15 years, and it is still used in studios everywhere. I dig mine. You can customize kits and has 4 outputs, so you can send the cymbals and toms out stereo and the kick and snare separate for processing.

+1 on that and Roland has some good machines also.

I know its computer software (VST plugin) but EZ Drummer and its respective add on drum kits is awesome!
