Gooseneck vocal mic mounted on guitar body???

A while ago I came across footage of the mighty Larry Graham performing with exactly this. Seems a great solution for the mobile singing bassist. I'm considering trying out the same setup & am wondering if anyone's done the same...I'm after advice on what equipment I should be looking at & folks' experiences generally.

I've already got a Sennheiser Freeport wireless system which should do the job on that front (or no?). What's a good gooseneck mic for live performance vox & what's the best way of mounting it on my bass to ensure stability whilst not marking/damaging it?

Has anyone else gone down this road?

Ach - never fancied the Janet Jackson/Madonna look myself. The next step is pointy or malfunctioning bras & then what will you look like?? It's a slippery slope guys.

This is a horrible idea. No dis to Larry G, but this is a bad idea. A slimline gooseneck mic is made as an installation oriented product by all of the major microphone manufacturer. They are tons more sensitive than are normal dynamic mics. They allow you to gain the crap out of the mic when "speaking" from a desktop/podium. They are also usable for choral and stringed ensemble work. But in these cases, there is usually nobody trying to sing over a rock or funk band. Larry started doing this years ago, and while it was his "thing", the headworn mic of today is a vastly superior idea. Achieving good gain before feedback and using wedges is very difficult. Besides, it completely looks stupid.

I wouldn't want it just because the gooseneck will pick up bass signals. I tried the headset mic twice and hated it because I could never speak privately without jumping through hoops to mute the mic, and it grossly distorted my voice unless it was set perfectly on my mouth. I'll stick with a stand.

plus, with the headset mic you now get to use zero mic technique! (not that i'm god's gift to backing vocals, but being able to adjust your mic distance on the fly seems like a pretty basic component of good live singing.)

Ok, I looked into the mic side of things last week & pretty much dropped the idea there, nothing really suitable. Along with the practical opinions provided here (& completely ignoring the unhelpful 'it's stupid' comments) it'll go in the non-starter bin!

I'm curious what the OP is performing live that would require that much mobility.

Agree with others that a headset does reduce the ability to use proper mic technique. But YMMV I guess.

No seriously I was looking into a solution for more real estate on small stages particularly with a pedal board thrown into the mix. & also the ability to wander around bigger stages rather than be rooted to the spot.
