I read an article in Guitar Player about the band Tool (sometime around the time of their 'Sober' single) and they used vintage amps. In order to protect the amps they kept them in refrigeration. | They might have been joking. The guys from Tool, especially in the early days, used to play practical jokes and say silly things. If I remember correctly, they used to say their band was about using crying as a form of therapy.
Oh, and resistivity is a word. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resistivity
Its a value that determines a materials ability to oppose current at a specific temperature. |

I wouldn't have heard of it if it weren't for a few questions in my electricity and magnetism homework. And it does sound like a bastardization of resistance. So I don't think its totally unreasonable to think it's a made up word. |

INTELLIGENT CHIP CD/DVD/SACD UPGRADE
"Machina Dynamica now carries the Intelligent Chip from Golden Sound.
The Intelligent Chip is a thin, orange, 1x1.5 inch rectangular wafer
that automatically upgrades any CD/DVD/SACD disc when the Chip is
placed momentarily on the top surface of the player above the spinning
disc. The Intelligent Chip is available in two models - the GSIC-10
($16) upgrades 10 discs; the GSIC-30 ($40) upgrades 30 discs. The disc
upgrade is virtually instantaneous - and permanent; the sound of the
upgraded disc more closely resembles the sound of the orginal master
recording.
"Description/Theory: The Intelligent Chip is a "new generation,"
high-tech device that corrects a particular problem inherent in all
commercial digital discs. According to the Intelligent Chip
manufacturer, this problem is produced by slight fluctuations in the
master clock(s) when pressing the discs. This "clock fluctuation"
problem (jitter) is one reason why consumer digital discs frequently
"don't sound quite right," or have a "high-frequency edge."
"The Intelligent Chip corrects the clock fluctuation problem within 2
seconds, resulting in sound that is clearer and less distorted, with a
deeper soundstage, more "air" and lower background noise. This
improvement is particularly apparent on very good discs.
"Instructions: Remove the orange Intelligent Chip from its protective
clear plastic case and place it on top of the CD/DVD/SACD player
directly above the transport section, silver label side facing up.
Next, insert the disc to be upgraded in the player, then push "Play"
and allow the disc to play for at least 2 seconds. The upgrade takes
only 2 seconds and is permanent. Note: It is helpful to mark the Chip
each time a disc is upgraded so you'll know how many upgrades remain.
"Once the disc is upgraded, you may either remove the Intelligent Chip
from the player and return it to its clear plastic case or leave it on
top of the player and insert the next disc to be upgraded into the
player. The manufacturer suggests always storing the Chip in its
protective case, otherwise the Chip could lose its effectiveness over
time. Once the Chip has upgraded the prescribed number of discs it
automatically ceases to function." Top that. |

btw OtterOnBass, Tool is known for saying ridiculous **** because they get their kicks out of that kind of stuff. Kind of like how Henry Rollins did vocals on the song "Bottom" because he owed them a bunch of money at the end of a poker game......? |

i send my wireless signal through a tube of cold refrigerated air, because the cold air has less resistivity on the wireless signal and thus preserves clarity in my sound! |

ONe good story that comes to mind was a guitarist I was in a band with a decade ago. We were rehearsing in his garage and, being the showboat he was, would often invite people to 'hang out' while we rehearsed (which the rest of us hated). ONe night he's trying to impress some girls and tells them his guitar cable came out of a heart monitor, so you know it's good!!!
I, of course, waited until after rehearsal and looked at the cord...yep, it's got "Larry's Guitar Shop" stamped right above the jack. My bandmates and I made fun of that for months!
Another story, not music related, but still...
When I was 18 and in college I worked at a hotel as a busboy/banquet setup. A handful of the waitresses there were 21, just going out to bars for the first time. They were told, one night, probably by some douchebag trying to get them hammered, that drinking water after boozing it up was a bad idea because "Water intensifies the alcohol".
Funny thing is they bought it and for months afterward would talk about it as if it were a safe drinking tip. | I've heard this before, and I'm going to research it after I post this, but I believe it goes that if you get completely hammered and then are trying to chug water to dissipate the drunkness, the added H2O tricks your body into re-circulating the alcohol in your bloodstream, making you drunker (and in most cases, sicker.) However, everyone knows that gradually drinking water and fluids (and eating food) WHILE drinking keeps you less-drunk.
Again, I don't know if that first part's true, but I've heard it many times, as a 21 year old in college. I can't really attest to it, because I always drink water after a night of heavy drinking, either to re-hydrate and avoid a hangover, or to re-hydrate while I'm vomiting all my insides.

He now has a spider tattoo on his face.
I almost asked if it improved his tone... but I have better things to do. |
