Hello all. I am trying to get the tone from the AIC Facelift album.

I love Starr's tone on that album. How could I achieve it? I am not sure if he recorded the album with Spectors at the time. I know the "Man in the Box" video he had one, but I was under the impression a good bit of that was recorded prior to them making it.

Anyway here is a good example of what I am trying to get.

I am hearing a lot of mids. Maybe some bite from an overdrive pedal. Not much though.

Trying to figure out if I could get closer to this using my 4 string passive Ibanez GSR-200 or 5 String Ibanez SR 485 with active pups and 3 band EQ.

The amps I have are Ampeg B100R with a 1x15 and a GK Backline 200 running into a old Fender BXR4x10H. Pedals I have are the DOD Bass Grunge, DOD Bass EQ, and Digitech BP50 which has a decent SVT and Ampeg B15 modelers.

I am just kinda stuck on where to begin. Any EQ and equipment advice of any kind is much appreciated.

SVT model with more mids + Bass Grunge should get you semi close.

that grinding/od tone comes from a sansamp psa-1 which was plugged straight into the ampeg head. lots of metal bands like tool, filter and a perfect circle used this technique too.
