HELP!!! IEM Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I am running a Fender Jazz through a BDDI pedal direct to our board. Before the signal goes to the board it is split (using a stage splitter) to route signal to our Avioms. I then use a set of Ultimate Ear SuperFi 3s plugged into my Aviom unit (no wireless). The problem is this: For the last two weeks, after about 45 minutes of playing, my bass goes noisy (static-not distortion) and loses volume in my IEMs. According to everyone else (who are also using IEMs on separate Aviom units), they don't hear it (the change in signal level or noise, although after I cleared it last week, the guitard asked if I had turned my bass up). The soundman at FOH says he doesn't hear it and there is no loss of signal coming to the board or at FOH. If I unplug the Lo-Z cable from my BDDI (sometimes twice) and wait a few minutes (during which time everybody stops playing), it comes clear. Its a new lo-z cable going from the BDDI to the snake (well, we've been using it for about three months) The UEs sound fine plugged into my board at home. I am running the bass channel pretty hot in my Avion unit. I can't say that I notice the noise in other Aviom channels (guitar, drums and vocals). This is driving me to distraction!

Changed the battery in the BDDI. No batteries anywhere else. Have some RF but the static only occurs when I am actively playing my bass. It's like I hit a note on the bass and i can hear the note but it is embedded in the static. RF comes from a gospel station about a mile down the road. They go off the air at sunset but the problem is still occuring when they are off the air.

If it was a grounding issue, I would think I would hear it all the time. Unless it is a flaky solder joint somewhere. Maybe after the circuity heats up, I could have something tring to go open on me.

If the FOH is clean and your bandmate are clean then it MUST be one of these things : Your split box , the cable from your split to your AVIOM , your AVIOM or your headphones/cable.

Next time , exchange your AVIOM box for another. If the problem follows , you'll know it's the AVIOM if the problem stays with you , change headphones/split/cable.

If the problems stays after all of this , then you'll know your bandmates and your FOH guy are deaf.

Tested headphones to day by recording a bass line then looping it over for about two hours into headphones. I am leaning towards bad Aviom or h/p extention cable. Or possibly...deaf FOH guy and bandmates...distinct possibility.
