The guys I'm working with now are looking for a powered mixer for smaller gigs. Curious to know what recommendations you guys would have.

I use a Yorkville M1610 - 2x 800w at 4 ohms, goes down to 2 ohms per channel. With a powered sub, we play small to mid sized venues and outdoor shows. 800w mains, @800w into 3 monitors, + 700w sub. We usually run 4 vox, guitar, bass, drums OH and Kick. (8 channels)

Yorkville also makes one that's 400w/side, the M810.

The Mackie is also a great choice - go with the larger one though (808) ~ Mono or stereo doesn't really matter, if you're using one side for mains and one for mon.

I've also heard good things about the Yamaha series, though I haven't used them.

I would buy a used name brand mixer. Yamaha, Mackie, Peavey all make good powered mixers.

I'm selling a used Mackie 808S powered mixer. It's in the Classifieds, hit me up if interested.

I have a chance to get a new Peavey XR8600 for a pretty good price. Anyone familiar with it?

Personally, I would stick to passive mixers and powered speakers. Powered mixers tend to be full of compromises and there has been a substantial leap forward in the quality of powered speakers recently.
