I have 2.

One is mounted to an iem only board...... It has a snake/loom that can connect it to different board sends. I keep my iem wireless unit in this board.... This way I can leave the entire works at the back if its the right use

The other is on stage ... With my guitar wireless/di etc.... This way I can use it to mix powered wedges if thats the route to go

I've tried several configs --- this has been the most flexible at the most places

Opinion---- if you're interested in iem you really should get something like a wireless with limiter.... You can leave the pack on your board... It's worth the 250 used to get the limiter and body pack option

I'd like to research this further; is there a "Best wireless IEM system" thread on TB (or elsewhere) that you can recommend?

I think the actual ear buds are whats important. The wireless system is simply a transmitter and an amplifier for the signal being sent.

MIM's are made in Mexico by Mexicans, the MIA's are made in America by Mexicans. (MIJ's are where its at)

Am I the only one that likes stage volume? our drummer has been using IEM's for over a year, now his wife (back-up vocals) and the lead singer have switched. The guitar player and I are holding out. Frankly, I like hearing what is going on onstage. We don't have loud stage volume ( my ears never ring ), though the singers monitor used to be blasting he's got one bad ear from long ago and it 's a blessing he has moved to IEM's.

the advantage of IEM is for the sound guy mostly. It makes his job 100% easier, and makes the band sound better

IEM systems make the mixer's job easier, sure; but IEMs are also a real lifesaver for singers who have trouble hearing pitch on loud stages. They also help when one of your bandmates can't otherwise seem to operate without a stage mix that's 90% him (here's your IEMs, buddy; enjoy!).

I am the only member of my band using IEMs, and it works fine. I have my mix set for a nice blend (like a good CD), rather than like a typical monitor (more me!). This forces me to listen to the others, and also lets me hear how I'm fitting into the overall mix. We use good wedge monitors for the other three members, and they can hear me fine in them, we just cut some bottom end from the signal going to the wedges. This allows them to hear what I'm playing without blowing speakers.

I use Westone UM3X-RC earbuds on a Shure P6HW body pack. My bass is wired, so there is no disadvantage to having a wired IEM. The advantages are audio quality and battery life. I simply piggyback my IEM cable to my instrument cable. It's a touch thicker and less flexible this way, but doesn't affect my performance.

update to this thread. Our third guitarist just started using IEM (wired headphones with a rolls 3 channel mixer)

now he can still hear himself when he plays background stuff, instead of cracking his amp up so loud that it makes mud of our mix. He boosts quite a bit when he plays lead, and it has eliminated most of the struggles we dealt with for so long.

He doesn't even use an onstage amp anymore. the sound he gets from his line 6 floor unit is great. I'm very happy that he agreed to do what was the best thing for the band instead of clinging to his marshall amp
