Inexpensive vocal mic to donate to charity

Sign in to disble this ad
A year or two ago, I remember reading a recommendation for an inexpensive (approx $35) SM58 Chinese copy for live sound vocals. I've lost the link to the supplier but would like advice for this mic or others in the $20 to $40 range for donation.
Application will be for a community space that has a decent PA, used by adults, low to medium volume, with mains and monitors. Looking for some sort of balance between decent quality audio, feedback rejection, and cost. TIA

Hi.

IME, the cheapo mic's major drawback is their tendency to break down pretty fast. Sometimes it's just one bump and the wire breaks, I do have personal experience about that. They're usually simple enough to repair, but still, it is a PITA.

If ~$40 is what You have to spend and there's little or no chance of theft, an used SM 58 would be my suggestion. Should fall roughly into that budget.

Regards
Sam

Gauge mics are fabulous for the $$ A 58 sells for, well, $58! Honestly A/B to a Shure, and you be hard pressed to tell the difference. http://www.gauge-usa.com/

Great mics for a crazy low price. I prefer the 57's over actual sm57's

Those are what I was gonna recommend.

The Behringer XM8500s bring great reviews, as well.

That's the one!
Thanks; I had read good reports but could not remember the name of the vendor.

Also up for consideration is an AKG D790 or Audio Tecnica M4000s both on close out from MF; anybody have experience with these; pricing is pretty good

I was going to recommend a Samson R11. I really like mine. Clear, but I usually need to dial out a little in the 10 to 12k range to keep feedback down.

We use the Audio Technica and Behringer in church settings (that we need some low cost mikes)

Don't buy a Chinese knock-off. My lead guitarist just got an SM48 for $29 on special. Go with that or the PG58. They're half-way decent mics.

also, check ebay or amazon, sometimes their pricing is 2/3rd MF types.

I'm happy with the AKG D5 @ $60, sounds better than SM57/58 IMO
