| | | yeah, the tone is just right, but it's also a lesson in why you need a stage tuner hooked up at all times; dude reaches for his keys at 1:19, and spends the rest of the song playing out of tune

If my speakers are working right on my computer it also sounds like he is playing flat-wound strings. For that time period that seemed to be the thing for a bass. Jaco's solo album made the bass sound that way on "Donna Lee"

It's not the bass player that may have had his amp set that way, but the sound engineer that mixed the sound. You can sound like a million bucks up on stage and the sound engineer may make the sound going through the mains or through the recording console sound totally different. We experience this at church almost every Sunday. Sounds great on stage but not out front always.
Skitch_it!
And if George Benson comes through my area, I'd be happy to play with him. 31 years experience 20 year professional music educator, college educated, degree in music, and a jazz player, upright and electric.

No, I was quite surprised that you thought that tone was 'bad' full stop? Vive le difference but I myself don't really hear anything 'bad' about it, I know I've heard far worse that's for sure.
I'll agree the Benson comment was a bit off the mark and I did look at your credentials before posting, I don't doubt your accomplishments, I do have my own experience in the field of music as most others here. Put it down to my crack at jazz-humour : ) | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
