I've gone to a few concerts lately where I saw boxes that the band's put at the edge of the stage, and when they would stand on the box, light would come up from inside the box.
It made me want to get a couple for my band.
Does anyone have any clue as to where to get one of these, or how to make one?
Thanks a lot for your time!

2. Put lights inside box.

I'm not certain I understand exactly what You mean, but if it's a pedestal with a light youre talking about, BruceWane pretty much nailed it.
Some kind of a frame, with a clear plastic lid with a hinge on one end and a switch on the other, a halogen fixture inside, etc. would do the trick.
If that's not what You are thinking about, perhaps a pic could explain it a bit better.
Never seen one and frankly, I find it to be a bit strange idea .

Can anyone possibly help me describe this better?

I think AlembicPlayer just did.
Are those things for real??? Real, like someone's using them?
No offense heath, but as Michael Jackson wasn't probably even the first one to use them, it was considered rather lame even back then.
Come to think of it a few of the Carnival Cruise Line and Costa Spirit class luxury cruise ships have a similar arrangement under the disco dance floor. That looks..., well..., perhaps I'm just an old fart .
In any way, just do it the way I described. Remember to leave the wiring, switches etc. for a qualified electrician.

small wooden frame box with plexi glass top, LED's inside..
you can use a momentary on/off switch/pad if you can source one...google search time!
I've seen them with metal grate tops and fans in them too.
good luck, shouldn't be too hard to fabricate one or two |

They came with an adapter to mounbt on a wall. I mounted the base on a small 6" x 6" square of plywood. The bases are made in such a way that you can daisy chain one to the other.
We just put these on the floor in front of us aiming up us .. or the wall behind us ... sometimes we duct tape the cords to floor so no one will trip over them. They are very effective ... and very simple.
We use basically three colours ... red ... blue and yellow ... and use anywheres between 4 - 6 of these little units ...
As I said nothing fancy ... but very very effective ...
here's a web link to the bulbs ... http://www.lightbulbsdirect.com/page...LandBR-38Color
Here's a web link to the bases ... http://www.amazon.com/Prime-Wire-Cab.../dp/B000KKJVTG
To give you an idea .. the base I have also has a receptacle on it. |

The bass player controlled them by foot pedal. They had cords going to a small two pedal box, then the power went to the light boxes.
I would like to build some, but dont know what to use for the pedals. They looked almost like a wah but alot smaller, spring loaded to turn off as soon as you let off the pedal.
It was cool.
Any ideas here about those pedals? |

If You use a dimmer- or a switch box for the lights, any lo-voltage switch will do.
If You're trying to control wall voltage, stick to the light switches, an only use waterproof ones.
The way I would construct such switching would be to make a relay box and use 12V control voltage on the switches.
Once again, be careful if You decide that you do it yourself and won't let an electrician do it. Quote:

Seriously, most of the bassists I've seen or worked with are the most concerned ones in the band about the overall visual and musical balance. They usually are also the ones who press on the use of lights, smoke machines etc. to make the visual experience more pleasant.
