I dont want to drop 600 on the G90 but if i am going to be happier with the sound and quality, i definitely will. | 3 line 6 Relay comparison iin a nutshell
G90: Rackmount Rcvr/ TBP12 (Ithink is transmitter model #) 2aa battery body pack, metal construction/12 chnl capability and cable sim/ 300ft range
G50 : Non rack rcvr( mine sets on top of amp) same bodypack as G90/ 200 ft range
G30: pedalboard made rcvr carbonite plastic both rcvr and xmttr/ 6 chnl capability with cable sim/ 2 aa battery
100ft range/ you use a 1/4 to 1/4 bodypack to inst cable
The only con I have heard about the G30 is the battery door on the body pack can sometimes be trick to close
But the performance is exc on all 3 systems
Hope this helps

2 points that got me and their resolutions :
(1) Straight 1/4" jack..........removed it and replaced it with a "right angle" 1/4" jack.
(2)Transmitter battery release is easy to get unlatched, if you're not paying attention...........started paying attention... |

| | | I have the XD R95 rackmount system.
Its great-until the batteries die.
No warning distortion-just signal till its dead.
Of course the receiver has a battery life meter on it so you can tell how youre doing for remaining transmitter power.
Beautiful signal for farther than youd ever walk away from it.
No static when the transmitter is off.
(A Samson about got me fired over that)
Looks great in a rack.(If youre into that) ((I am!))
I do have some ideas for improvement on the transmitter:
These may have already been done on later models
Better battery door.
Slide In Connection for the battery instead of the wired clip.
Right-Angle Input Jack
Other than that, Best Ive Ever Had!!

I have the G30, and while it works great, the metal clip on the back of mine snapped off, so it's fastened back on with glue & tape. Is more my fault than anything, but still... |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: May 2008 Location: Sioux Falls, SD | | | G30 user here for almost a year and love it a lot. It's the first wireless system I've ever trusted to not mess with my tone. The range is surprisingly good and I usually get a solid 2 gigs (6-8 hours) out of a pair of AA batteries.
The battery door thing is a little tricky but no big whoop. I've been able to execute an in-set battery switchout in about a minute without a problem. The battery life indicator on the receiving unit is a really nice touch and something I wish I had on my (far more expensive) Shure wireless IEM system.
Actually the biggest issue I have with it is that the detents on the channel selector slider are very weak, i.e., it's very easy for the channel on the pack to get changed inadvertently. It's probably been 9 or 10 times on gigs that I've turned it on and gotten no signal and that was the reason every time. Nothing a piece of duct-tape couldn't fix I guess... but for a device that otherwise is very well made it just seems like that piece of it is kinda chintzy.

Just happened to find a new X2 a few days ago, so going for #3 since its about half the price compared to the G series.
I'd go for the G series, or the new XD-V75s in a heartbeat when the new X2 dies.
The digital thing is very much better than the analog units. No experience with the Shure digital units, haven't heard anything about what principles they operate on, if its similar, equivalent, superior, or inferior.

All of them have performed flawlessly. Battery life on the G series is much better, as is the construction of the transmitter.

| | | | I just got the g50, its my first wireless system. And i must say it is great! Had my first gig with it this weekend, worked perfectly... Only one problem i had was the sender unit went to the floor 2 times... Had it fasten with the metal clip on the strap... Im now looking for a better way to fasten it to my strap...

| | Registered User | | Join Date: May 2009 Location: Akureyri, Iceland | | Went last friday and bought a G50 unit, tried it out at practice last night, was a bit skeptical, seemed to be a bit muddy when I was playing (with the band), in a break I was playing some single notes and it was like it had a compressor on with a 3-4sek attack time. Went back to the store and tried it out with the owner, he got a new transmitter and we tried that out, worked flawless. Went home with the new transmitter
Another rehearsal in thursday and a gig on friday, can't wait to try it out |

Ate batteries
Poor sound
Hard to normalize volume
Interference.
None of those problems with the Line 6 unit. In fact, if you splurge and get the Energizer Lithium batteries, I used the same batteries for about 3 months through gigs and practices. I kept waiting for them to croak...they finally did at last Fridays gig. Sound is great and I have never had interference.

I've taken this system to about 3-4 gigs and it's not worked right for the entire gigs. Tonite I was jammin in our first set fine. It did brake up abit and I was only about 2' from my rig. Annoying but I kept going. Then it just stopped all together. Audio light kept solid red and just wouldn't start up again.
I moved the patch cord from the reciever and it made a crackle/pop sound. I figured bad cord tried two others; still Audio light burned solid red. I've had to switch to a regular inst cable at my gigs each time. Guess I need to send it back to LIne 6 but my luck they will say they tried it and it didn't show the issue to them. The problem seems intermitent so no gurantee they'll find the problem. Dang, hate to just throw it away and go back to inst cables.
