Live uses for omni mics?

Hey folks,

I've collected a few omnidirectional mics over time & just curious what uses folk have found for these in Live Sound applications.

Thanks,
David

Overhead drums ..... Bluegrass/folk

How good are they?

Thanks MN.

I get the bluegrass/folk application. Figured 'normal' (to me; classic rock bar band) stage & FOH SPLs would steer one to a more directional source for even drum o/h use.

Decent & half-decent Audio Technica mics. Unless a couple others have crept into the misc mic pile.

Symphony orchestras might have a use for them, too. Never once in the gigs I've done in 35 years has anyone ever used one, though I did some shows with Del McCoury and his band used one, but they're bluegrass.

Ambience mike for in-ears. Recording live shows. Overheads on trap kits, vibes, marimba, grand piano, choirs, etc.

Thanks folks. Might be worthwhile hanging on to a couple of the nicer ones for recording & for drum o/h.

I personaly prefer using shotguns for this application , you want to hear the crowd , not the band on an ambiant mike.
