I was going to ask about the iphone as well, we haven't had any luck with iphones.

We have used the DL1608 for the last 4 months or so, while running sound from stage with our powered mains and monitors, and it has been great. We generally run 4 vocals, acoustic guitar, 2 mic'd guitars and kick through it.

I could be wrong but I believe the presonus only allows monitor mix control with the iphone. Two different apps for iphone and ipad. Only the ipad has full control.

Anyone try a 1608 with drive rack?

Yeah, but two fingers is quoting me, and I was talking about the 1608 in my post.

No iPhone support for 1608. The iPhone app for presonus is very limited. I tried it onece and as I recall it is a more me app. You can change the volume of one channel. The rest must be tweaked at the board.

At church, with the presonus, I can adjust any channel level on any monitor mix with the an iPod touch or iPhone. But that is all. Eq, comp, hpf, main mix, etc. is ipad only. Limits can be put on each device. So they could make it where I could only control my monitor mix but they don't since we don't all have iPhones.

You are correct there. Iphones can only use the Qmix app to control auxes. You'd be hard pressed to mix on an iphone though.

On the upside you can use an ipod touch to control monitor mixes, a much cheaper option than both iphones and ipads especially on the used market

Not so. You can control the levels of all the channels on the presonus from the ipad/iphone/ipod touch although you can limit a user to just adjusting his own level from his device from the computer.

Dumb question#xxxx

If you turn on your 1608 (no ipad) does it recall the last setup?

Sorry that I was wrong. As I wrote I didn't do much with the iPhone app.

That would be interesting.... but you still have no control at all without the ipad. I just assumed the 1608 was a paperweight without an ipad.... I will wait for the answer.

Would make sense it would recall the prior setting...

Many rackmount mixers like this are bricks without the computer... this is what caused me to spend hours finding one that would recall the prior setting.

I had a good hard look at the Mackie 1608 when it first came out but the Presonus (24.4.2) won me over for a number of reasons.

- It still had physical controls that you can adjust in an instant
- It has a FULL complement of tools in the fat channel
- Capture is wonderful - the recordings are great - I charge extra for a WAV or MP3 of the gig or all the individual tracks (or a mix down, if the music is to my taste).

Now that VSL has been further upgraded to include transfer function and delay alignment wizards (as well as the spectrograph graph EQ tool) I remain comfortable with my decision.

http://www.presonus.com/products/Vir...oLive/Smaart-M

I haven't tried the transfer function yet but this kind of room tweaking, ear candy really differentiates me from the other local sound guys in SE Asia.

I agree with most of the downsides mentioned other than the learning curve - it's quick.

I regularly leave the laptop at home and rarely use the wireless router (often you can use the venue's wireless).

I'm toying with the idea of constructing a 2U rack with a Mac Mini, generic screen and wireless router - but this is an expensive setup...

I LOVE the EQs on the VSL software but hate the 31 band EQs on the physical board to the point I don't use them.

May I point out that the 1608 is not in the same rang as the 24.4.2 and I think is not right to even bring it up here. It is in the 16.0.2 range. Sort of like comparing an svt head to a Fender Bassman 50 (oops showing my age)?

Substitute 16.4.2 for 24.4.2 if that feels more comfortable...

I considered all sorts of boards when buying my first digital, including the Mackie, Yamahas, Presonus (missed the X32 by a few months). I ended up picking up my new SL 24.4.2 for $2,700 after a tip from a great TB'er
