Mackie PPM 608

Hi guys
Anybody have issues with a Mackie PPM608? We purchased this sucker last year and last month it just took a dump in the middle of a gig. Vocals started to distort even at low levels and it would cut out altogether sometimes. We checked the speakers with an older peavy head and they checked out fine. The speakers are Peavy PR15Ns. All cables were good too. Not too happy with this head right now. Any thoughts, suggestions? Its still under warranty so thats good, but anyone have a similar sounding problem? Thanks mucho.

That head has two power amps in it. Do both (A & B) outputs do this? If it's only one that does it, that would point to a problem with that power amp. If they both do it, that makes it common to both sides, and there's no way the power amps failed the same way at the same time, so it has to be something else in the mixing section and/or mixing-output-to-power-amps section.

Either way, send it back on the warranty. Mackie's earlier versions of this, the 808S/808M, were rock solid and became a powered mixer industry standard of sorts. Based on this, I'm thinking it's quality gear and you got a bad one.

Hi Baba
Thanks for the reply. Yeah its weird that it does it on both channels. Older Mackies are excellent which is why my band went for this one. Its in for repair and lets see what they say. Will update when I get mixer back. I wonder if anyone else has heard of issues with these mixers? Google didnt help much.

Hey!

I have a Mackie PA head that's giving me trouble. I'm in Santa Cruz, CA. Where did you get yours repaired? Mine's out of warranty and I really don't want to ship it to Seattle if I don't have to. Does someone around here work on them?

Thanks in advance.

I've read about a ton of issues regarding the newer versions of the older 808S and 808M. Get with Mackie on warranty repair. I've been on a never ending search for an 808S to use for my band. A band I used to be in back in NY used one and it was great. 2 mains+2 monitors. We didn't add a sub since the places we played were pretty small.
