Yes but I wonder how he can do both at the same time, the stage is not a good place to run the sound from.

Not entirely true.

Also, yes, band members supplying PA should get payed more. Especially if another band uses said PA on the night.

Yes. It is difficult work. I spent many years driving to the gig early, setting up the PA tweaking it for the room before the rest of the guys ever showed. Then I would do the sound with a 100ft cord, so I could play and listen to the PA. Then it was back to stage to make any adjustments and repeat. When gig started everything was dialed in and it was a need to watch levels. It is possible to mix from stage, difficult but possible.

The title implies that you own the soundman.
I say yes, you should be paid more.

We don't make alot on our shows so im not sure that I even want' to sound greedy or cause any hard feelings over a few dollars,we are all in our 40's except for the singer who is 25 and have families with careers that support us financially so none of us are doing it for the money but it sure would be nice to get a little extra play money for sure.
They do help with the unloading and loading at the gig and we all get along great so I can't complain about any of that.

You own a sound man?
I thought that was outlawed after the civil war?

Remember, sound engineers and lampies (lighting techs) only rate about half a notch above cattle and other livestock. Grab yourself one today!

That can be a tough subject to address. Does only your bass rig & the PA go in the trailer, or does everyone's gear go in? You might want to present it as overhead/extra gas $/transportation cost or something like that. Maybe take 10-15% off each gig 1st, then split the rest evenly.

PA System,Lights,Drums and Bass rig (Aguilar TH500,GB Neox212t or GS-412) so never more than 2 pieces for the bass rig.
The PA is.... 8 space rack with 16 channel board,2 JBL JRX 215's,2 Yamah 112SV's,2 stage monitors,1 Genz Benz 18 Sub mic stands and 2 light tree's.
I sold my Ford Explorer and now tow the trailer with my 2500hd chevy truck with a 8.1 engine that gets around 9 mpg.

I would say at the very least, it would be fair to cover 100% of your gas costs.

I was curious if there is some kind of industry standard but it sounds like there is not.

Yes, especially if you pay for upkeep, repairs, etc... on the trailer and PA.

In previous bands, I owned the PA and ran the sound (and set it up), but I've never charged the band. But I would now. Probably at least $50 extra, but $100 would be more realistic from a value standpoint.

If he is getting help from the rest of the band setting up,pay for his gas.

If he sets up and tears down the P.A. by himself,he deserves much more.
