Need advice on replacement Subs

Sign in to disble this ad
I was given a set of EV Force Cabinets with dual 15" subs and plan to use them for live sound. Normally, I would have gone with single 18's in a ported box, but hey, it was free.

It is obvious that two of the subs need reconing, while the other two look okay, but will need to be re-tested.
I did the old 9-volt battery test on all and the voice coils seemed fine.

I can go the cheap route and re-cone, but for a little more money I can just replace the el cheapo stamped cage EV's.

So, I need advice for replacements. These are 4th order bandpass boxes, so keep that in mind. Any suggestions or advice?

Here's a link to the sell sheet for these subs......

Put both good drivers in the cleanest box and sell it. Then sell the other box "blown - as is". Then buy a decent sub.

WinISD.

Timmy's suggestion isn't bad either if there isn't any moral restrictions to selling the "gifts".

You can't just throw any 15" driver in a cab and expect it to sound good. There's a lot more involved in cabinet design to match the speakers to produce the correct tuning.

I've had good luck with contacting EV directly in the past. You might do okay asking them to recone for you.

just a thought

There is a TB thread on FOH sub placement.
IIRC, putting one sub on each side of the stage is not the way to go, stacking them is.
+1 on reselling them and picking up one 1000 watt powered sub.
