Need help with passive crossover

Sign in to disble this ad
I need some help finding a replacement crossover for one of my band's Yamaha S215-IV cabinets. I've been able to locate the factory replacement for an S215-V, which appears to have the same specs, but it's a 2-week lead time and we need to use this cabinet this weekend for an outdoor gig. So I've been looking for something comparable, and available immediately.
The factory crossover is set at 1400hz, and it's a 4-ohm cabinet. Can I use an 8ohm crossover set to 2800hz? The load change should also change the crossover point, correct?
Any help appreciated.
Dave

Crossovers are designed and tuned to specific drivers in specific boxes.

Repairing the existing crossover might be the way to go.

Hi.

You don't ask much, now do you .

You can't just slap in any cross-over and expect it to work. Especially if it has a pair with a different cross-over.

What is it in the original cross-over that can't be repaired?

Regards
Sam

I don't know exactly what is wrong with the original crossover. I'm not quite that savvy with electronics. I guess I know enough to be dangerous!
I DO know that the original crossover is not working at all; it's sending full-range to both woofers and the horn and the cab just sounds awful.
A local repair shop has the crossover since last week but hasn't been able to get it fixed yet.
If it can't be fixed and/or I have to use something other than the OEM part, then I will replace both so they sound alike. I'm wondering what I can get that will sound most like the original I guess.

Can you rent or borrow a cab or cabs for the gig? Putting the wrong crossover in could cause more damage, and you don't want to cause more long term problems trying to fix a short term situation.
