Need some advice on running my bass through FOH

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

My band invested in some JBL MP 255s subs, so now we are running my bass through them. At this time I am Playing through a Hartke 5500 head and a Peavey 4x10 cab. Here is where I could use some advise. I would like make my rig smaller now because we are using the subs. I have a Behringer Ultrabass BX1800 Bass Combo that has a direct out on the back of it. Do you think that this would be a good enough monitor for on stage? I know Behringer is not considered the best brand but all I need is something small to hear myself. The bass signal is being eq at FOH.

If anyone has any suggestions or advice please let know

Thank you for your time

Andrew

That all depends on how loud the band and specifically your drummer is.. If you can hear yourself fine with the beringer and your bandmates can as well on-stage, have at it... smaller the better IMO..

Should work, just turn the bass down on the beringer so you can get more volume out of it. The FOH should fill in the Bass for you.

Thanks for the advice. We are a Texas/Country band so I don't think i will have to worry about the drummer being to loud.

Thanks Again

What AfroCuban and gmarcus said. However, I would recommend using a DI to get your signal to the house instead of the Behringer’s XLR output. Often the output of budget combo amps can be noisy, and/or don’t offer the option of bypassing on-board equalization and so forth.

I've had about 30 DIs..ranging from the snob "have to have" to the ultra cheapos...

OPINION.. for passive, Rolls DB25 and active.. MXR M80 are the values...

------

I'm not going to bash your amp --- it may be prudent to have a backup DI option...

With the right DI and monitors (or IEM) you can also eliminate your amp...

-----

I own big rigs.. for a gig like this, chances are I'd be bringinging one of my kickback combos with tested DI.

If you're running the bass through the PA, smaller is better, and whoever is controlling the FOH will make it sound good.
I'm sure your "stage" sound will be fine and everyone will hear the bass fine with a small combo.
