Playing a Highschool Talent Show!

Sign in to disble this ad
So I am playing my high school talent show with my band. I only have a peavey max 110 and that cant compete with the drums. I am thinking about buying a stack amp. But if i could hook up to the schools PA system that would be awesome. I dont know if it could handle the low frequencies thought.. Help?

Don't expect to use your school's PA, because they probably won't want to deal with anything other than the vocals. See if you can just share and amp if you don't want to go out and buy a stack. If you're in a gym 110 watts through the right speaker should be plenty. Too loud and it will sound worse than its going to anyway.

A typical high school PA really isn't made for music. It's more the fire drill/pledge of allegiance kind of PA, and besides, I doubt if the principal would be too happy if you guys have the volume up to ear bleed levels. A way easier (and cheaper) answer is just to tell the drummer to switch from his John Bonham mode to his Ringo mode.

I have seen this before at HS events and those little cabs are practically stage decoration. Get a good 410 with 200 watts or more and have the audience actually hear you! That 110 Peavey thing is not going to cut it at all. If you plan on playing bass for a while, getting a bigger rig now is a good idea. Check Craigslist.org and search everywhere for used gear. If the idea for bigger gear is ONLY for this show, borrow somebody's gear and offer to pay for a 1 day rental.

I do live sound at my school with a dedicated PA from the music department. I have ran a line out from my head for that little extra re-inforcement and it sounded really good. but 5 different people were using my amp so the sound man was prepared to spend a bit of time getting it to the desk at the back off the gym. A bigger rig is probably the best way to go though.

I was considering doing something similar I have a 120w combo AMP that can compete with drums and guitar no problem. Would it sound good?
