Hi.

Today, we played a show in our school and everything was excellent, except when the sound tech decided he had enough time to smoke outside... the bass was barely audible at the beginning and during the solos, one of the guitarist's volume was turned down... The drummer complained MANY times that he didn't have enough volume in his monitors and the guy did nothing except saying : «Dude, are you deaf?» while laughing in a not-so-professional way.

Does anyone has similar stories? I'd like to hear about that.

Yeah all the time. Crappy bands come play at the bar. They sound just awful and unprofessional, and act the same. They crank their cheap amps way to loud for a tiny room, can't tune their $50 squires, swing the mics around denting the windscreens, start late and go 10 minutes over, take forever to load out, don't listen to a word I say then complain about how terrible the sound was.

There's lots of people out there who suck at life. This includes some sound engineers, musicians, and every other profession. It goes both ways.

clicky:
Bashing Sound Engineers...no longer allowed.

PS. This post wasn't directed at the OP personally, just been seeing a lot of this creeping up lately. It inevitably gets out of hand and that's why the rule was made. Just trying to nip it in the bud.

My idea was not to bash the sound engineer at all, and I'm sorry if it sounded this way.

Actually I wanted to know what other TB'ers did when facing a similar situation so that it doesn't happen again, or at least, less often.

(btw, the amps weren't cranked all the way up, and yes, the guitarists could tune their $2500 Jacksons)

Really the only way to avoid a bad sound guy is to hire your own. Then if they don't meet your approval you can fire them. You could try slipping the house guy a twenty or buy them a drink, but most likely that would result in you being out $20 and still have a bad sound guy.
