Power conditioning overkill?

Sign in to disble this ad
Currently, I'm running a Monster Pro 2500 Rack PowerCenter to power my live setup. Despite seeing negative reviews on this product on Monster's website, it actually does a great job of keeping unwanted noise out of my signal. I was thinking of replacing the stock power cords in all of my rack equipment with Monster Powerline 100 cables. These power cords supposedly do the same job as the power conditioners as far as cleaning up AC power currents. After thinking for a while, I'm not sure I should spend the extra money. Is there any more of an improvement that this method could do for my sound, or is it simply a waste of money?

The cables are total BS. PLEASE do not waste your money. The rack one is not doing nearly as much as they've led you to believe, either.

+1. Total waste of money. I spent $30 on my Furman power block and even that was more $$$ than I needed to spend but it has a metal housing and a 15' cord which is useful.

The electrical engineers on this site who design gear for a living will tell you it's a waste of money. Every last one of them will, AFAIK.

I got one of the 8 socket Belkin pure A/V units.

The main reasons I got it were, the extra long cable, a metal housing which stands up to being banged around and the wide spacing of the sockets in case I need to use a wall wart or two.

The fact it has surge protection and some basic filtering are nice but not the determining factor.

I got mine for an exceptional price, the retail prices on these type of devices are OTT IMHO.

depending on the unit they "can" be useful... As some have joked.. I like the master swtich... level meter and lights.. they are dependable and can be found used.
