securing a wireless during performance

Sign in to disble this ad
For those of you that actually get out and work on stage, how do you secure your wireless transmitters? I use the X2 system and have to switch basses regularly so taping to a strap isn't an option. I will at some point just buy a 2nd transmitter but in the meantime does anyone have a system that actually works for them? Attaching to my belt works however it is not ideal due to the amount of movement. I move A LOT during performances and my basses move even more (I play rock and I go for the all out 'rock star' type performance; hoisting my bass into the air regularly, positioning it at my pelvis, all the goofy things that go into a 'big show' type of performance).

I am wondering if anyone uses some sort of ....... sheath, bag, ??? .... to 'house the transmitter in some way that allows free movement and as little adjusting as possible. When I am working, adjusting my transmitter is not something that I want to have to do often and having unreliable gear in any way is not professional IMO (whether it is not reliable in function or needs constant attention, etc).

Thanks for any opinions/options/advice.

simmilar to

and clip that onto the strap. when you want to swap over, either remove the whole sheath, or remove the transmitter, and put it into another sheath on another bass

Perhaps you COULD tape it to the strap, and then instead of having to take it off the strap and attach it to another strap, you could just take the strap off your bass and put it onto the spare bass?

Thanks guys. Those are good ideas (I have thought about the switching strap solution and came close but ultimately decided against) but not just right yet. The pouch/sheath thing is where I am headed as a temporary solution I think. I appreciate the ideas.

I keep mine secured to the strap. I use dunlop straplocks on all my basses, so it takes me three seconds to undo it from one, and move it to the other.

I tape it to the strap and use the same strap on all basses, but our guitarist sticks his in his rear pants pocket.

Seems we're the same kind of player, performance - wise.

I use a cable from bass to transmitter that's about 18" or longer, (a bit of trial and error needed to determinr the best length for you), and put the transmitter in the back pocket of my jeans.
You don't lose it, and changing instruments is easy - unplug one and plug the other back in..

I use the X2 also, and with a 36" cable, putting the transmittor in my left back pocket has worked quite well - to change instruments, I turn off the receiver, unplug the transmittor from the bass I'm using, swap basses, plug back into the incoming bass, and turn the receiver back on... I have also just muted at the tuner, but since the morion's basically about the same to turn the receiver on and off, I just do it that way - because I didn't like seeing the receiver's meter jump during the process if I just muted at the tuner, instead of turning the receiver on and off...

I can swap basses pretty quickly using the above method, and by putting the trans in my back pocket - with the clip grabbing the outside of the pocket - I haven't had any troubles yet - and I'm a very active live player...

Seems like the best idea, changing straps takes 2 seconds,

I have an AKG wireless with a decent metal clip on the transmitter. I just clip that onto the strap and it stays put. I could easily transfer it to another strap if needed. I'd think a good strong clip would work OK.

I use an inexpensive cell phone case I got at Sears for $5.00. I run it through my belt. You could contact Butch at Bayou cables to see if he would make you a bass to transmitter cable longer then 3 ft. I would think 4-5 feet would be plenty for what you need

If you replace the plug on the pack's cable with a shorting ("silent") plug, you won't have to turn off the receiver or mute the tuner.

I've got the X2 also and wear a wider strap. I went to Staples and got a small Blackberry case. There's no strap over the top, but the transmitter fits deep into the case and is a friction fit. The nice thing is the clip on the pouch pivots. Fits pretty secure so you might want to check it out. Take the transmitter along too and test out which one fits best.

Same here with the strap & Dunlops.
The wireless(Sennheiser 172) is in my back pocket(dress nicely shows) or clipped to my back pocket(jeans).

You need the Neotech Wireless Pouch. I have a couple of these. They go right on the strap. Get the medium one. $11.99 at MF.
