Signal Chain??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys just wanted some quick input on my signal chain I'm about to hook up for my next gig.

I run an ampeg svt 4 pro mono-bridged into 8x10 cab. I have korg dtr 1000 running out of the tuner output on the rear of the head.
Out of the effects loop on the back of the head I run into the input of a sansamp rbi. Then i run out of the output of the sansamp into bbe 482i sonic maximizer and then back into the input of the effects loop on the back of the ampeg.
all powered by a furman conditioner.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated, im new to the whole rack thing and want to make sure i get it right.

I'd take out the Sonic Maximizer and call it a day. I'd probably also be able to do without the Sansamp too. Both are personal choice.

I would suggest using input 2 on the back of the RBI with the input pad for this application.

Yep... Input 2 needs the -20 pad on as you are running a line level in from the pre amp on your head.

You might make things simpler by using the RBI as your pre amp period. so you don't have 2 sets of tone controls to fiddle with.

Bass into input 1. Output of RBI to return on bass head. Then only thing on amp to set is master volume. Might sound better also. Less circuitry in signal chain and less chance of setting something wrong. Basically you are just using the bass amps power section. Chances are the RBI will sound better than the built in pre on a lot of amps. I did not see any tech specs in the manual but I assume the 1/4" outs are line level.

If you're going to use the RBI as a straighforward preamp, why not just take the 4Pro outta there and get a true power amp? I know what they cost and that's a lot of double-eq'ing/gain staging, etc. going on.

Crown K1 is the best sounding affordable power amp I've compared (but I've not tried any QSC).
