Speaker distorion...

Have a couple of Yamaha C112 Vs that we use as monitors. They had some pretty nasty distortion at all levels...I replaced the drivers and the diaphragms in the horns and I'm still getting distortion. What else could it be? Would xover damage cause distortion like this? I tried them with different amps and new drivers...what else should I troubleshoot?

Big_Daws 12-22-2012 09:08 PM

yes that is very possible...would be my guess, especially since you have replaced the drivers etc...

Thanks...is this something that can be successfully repaired or would it be better to just replace the xover outright?

Check your cab for air leaks

MNAirHead 12-23-2012 02:24 AM

Check for loose hardware

pflash4001 12-23-2012 02:51 AM

Did that. It's really bad distortion. Worse than loose hardware.

Big_Daws 12-23-2012 06:39 AM

generally not and is replaced...does the crossover look burnt out anywhere?? do the caps look ok??

MNAirHead 12-23-2012 12:34 PM

Have you tested the drivers independent if the crossover?

pflash4001 12-23-2012 05:39 PM

No signs of toasting on the xovers. Going to test the drivers on their own this week sometime.

My bad for not asking this first

Stupid question: you've subbed in known-good speakers in place of the Yammies to check that the distortion isn't in the upstream signal path, yes?

pflash4001 12-24-2012 08:16 AM

Yes. Other cabs were subbed in place of these with no issues.
