Speaker Recommendation

Sign in to disble this ad
I need to replace some speakers in my subwoofers. I have 2 older Soundtech subs with 2-18" woofers in them. The original speakers foam has gotten old and broke apart. I believe the subs are ported, though I have not taken them apart yet. Emminence Sigma Pro's will work, but wanted to know if anyone here has another recommendation. The cab is tuned down to 28hz and the original configuartion is rated at 600 watts at 4ohms. Thanks for your help.

You'll probably get more responses over in the amps forum. That's where the speaker guru's hang out.

They'll want to know the cabinet volume (external dimensions will do). Also how did you determine the port tuning was 28Hz?

You can get those fixed. Check with your local speaker recone shop.

I have had speakers rebuilt. It was expensive relative to a new speaker amd I wasn't happy with the sound. I was thinking of swapping out speakers with Eminence Sigma Pro 18's as they match the performance of the speakers I am replacing (8 ohms, 99db sensitivity, 600 watts power handling). As for the tuning of the cabs at 28hz, that was from literature I received from the manufacturer.

If everything else is OK, they won't have to do a recone, they can just replace the surround. They should perform as they did before.

When having a full recone, one must make sure that the correct original parts are used, otherwise they may perform very differently.

+1. I just put a Carvin speaker in my floor monitor. It sounds way better, is more efficient, and handles more power than the origional.
