Tame Impala - The Elusive Bass Sound! Help!

Definitely my favorite band right now is Tame Impala. Part of the reason I love them so much is the tones the get with their instruments (particularly in the bass department). Largely, their sound seems dictated in production by the lead singer, Kevin Parker. I am wondering if anyone on here knows what the bassist (Paisley Adams) uses for live sound. I know he sometimes performs with a Hofner Violin bass, Ampeg Classic Head and 8x10 cab, but am wondering what effects he must use to achieve the blown out, up front sound. Any help would be rad! Thanks talkbassers!

Now THAT is interesting stuff.

Smooth. Neither of the bands I'm in would even begin to consider covering this. Pity.....

Terrible production on MB's links. Not much better on Jeff's - but at least there's something on the bottom.

definitely flatwound strings going there(very similar to Mccartney tone). All I hear is that, and Ampeg and there must be a light overdrive sometimes.

Just saw some pics a guy took of the guitarists pedalboards. He said the bass player was just rocking the hofner with SVT, didn't mention any pedals.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Re: Tame Impala - The Elusive Bass Sound! Help!

HHHH I Can’t Wait! Tame Impala’s psych sounds just flow through my veins. When InnerSpeaker came out I pretty much abandoned all other music for weeks. I think I speak for a majority of music nerds when I say I have very very high hopes for this release.

Last time I saw them play here in Denver, I was lucky enough to get to hang out with Wayne Coyne (Flaming Lips) who had flown in from Oklahoma specifically to watch Tame Impala play (he also found his way on stage later when Tame covered the Lips).

Saw Tame Impala last night in Milwaukee. Really good. They had the violin bass + SVT. Kevin Parker played a Rickenbacker guitar.

Doesn't sounds like effects to me. Sounds like a Hofner thru an SVT, maybe a little cranked.
