"Tearing" noise from rig, any thoughts?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, how are ya. I just started to get a tearing, ripping kind of sound from my rig. Signal chain:
Pre Amp>Tuner>Effects processor>Power amp, all plugged into a power conditioner w/chorus, envelope, and octave boxes on the floor.
The sound starts with a touch of the strings and then becomes a rhythmic, pulsing sort of distorted pop at whatever volume I'm set at and I'm not even playing when this pulsating is happening. Never heard anything like this and its been almost 4 decades of playing for me. Anyone experience anything similar by any chance? Thought I'd ask before I start yanking wires and trouble shooting piece by piece. Thanks.

Sounds like a grounding issue somewhere.

Pull the tuner and effects out and see if it still does it. If not, you have ruled out the pre and amp. If so, you have ruled out the tuner and effects. Swap stuff out 'till you find the culprit.

Hey Jazzin, I get about the same effect when I use my wireless system where there are floresent lights as the main (house) lights.Kinda sounds somewhat either a busted speaker or a bad (connector) cord. I don't use any kind of (effects) pedals. My tuner is not connected either (while playing). I am un-pluged from my amp when tuning. This (problem for me) can be quite irritating. Best of luck and I hope you can find (fix) your problem.
