You got it right, you do risk it.
It's been a while since the last thread about it, but fishing plug tips out of enclosed jacks used to be one of the more common threads in MI forums.
Perhaps the quality has gone up eventually
IT's a total PITA to extract the jammed tip out of some jacks. Barrell type is often a lost cause, an open style CTS obviously doesn't even have that problem.
+1 for using Neutrik plugs (and other connectors).
