Using Firewire on USB

Sign in to disble this ad
Howdy.

I'm looking to getting a firewire Moto Mk3

I am looking to use a small netbook to do live recordings.. issue is the Motu isf firewire only.. the laptop is usb2

Question--- how/can you cross talk between these two pieces of hardwarwe.

note I will not be expecting high quality from this setup... just want to communicate CueMix just in case.

Tim

I don't think you can. Either get an add on adapter (if the net book has an expansion slot), or get a bigger laptop that does. Or just get a laptop with fire wire (the best solution).

A plug-in PCMCIA card with FireWire for your lappy will do it..

THe motu ultralite mk3 has FW400 and USB 2.0
Go to thier web site and down load the manual,
or read the specs a little closer.

If you're buying a used one it might not have FW and USB like mine but the new ones are both. A PCMCIA card slot adapter is all you need to add a firewire port.

Have not tracked 8 at a time with USB but it works fine with my
2.4 duo Macbook Pro 2 GB ram (have done 16 at once also for live shows). I use external drives 7200rpm FW.

Firewire and USB can't 'cross talk' and are not compatible.

You'll need an interface with USB on it to work with your netbook.
