BL for backline. SL I assume is soundman or sound reinforcement. Not sure what the L is...?

I know it's more than just lighting because when I asked for the availability of lighting and sound support she said, "Yes...SL and Backline if requested."

One of my band members believes backline to mean amps and pianos.

Yes, backline usually does mean amps and pianos. Sometimes other hard-to-transport items.

Drums, too. All keyboards as well, not just pianos. However, backline companies will provide pretty much anything you need, including guitars and basses.
