You can carp about it all day long, but in Europe, Accordion gets LOTS of love - and lots of gigs! Nothing wrong with accordion.

Heck, Josef Zawinul (known for keyboards in Weather Report) has been playing MIDI accordion since the invention of MIDI in the late '80s. One was custom-made for him back then--and I think it was made by Roland. (Joe has been playing accordion since early childhood).

Do you have a problem with bagpipes, laddie?
You'd better watch your back. We scots are quite proud of the pipes.

Accordions are very cool and complicated instruments. In the right hands, playing the right kind of music, the results can be amazing. Check out compositions by Astor Piazzolla.

Technically Piazzolla did not play accordion. He played bandoneon.

And here in West Texas, accordion players in tejano and norteno bands get way more love and money than the best lead guitarists. Like "I own a Prevost that I park in my front lawn in the barrio" love and money.

In the U.S., play an accordion, go to jail.

Aye!!!

+1

Bag Pipes and Accordians are way cool. I'm a big fan of Celtic folk music.

When I was about 12 I satrted taking music lessons because I wanted to play guitar. It was through a music program that made you play the accordian before they let you start on guitar. They also made you play piano. I was really embarrased about playing that accordian so I talked my parents into sending me to guitar lessons at the local music store. Now I wish I stuck with it.

No, this is about the range of responses I expected.
Bass_Lord_Mutha, I lived in San Antonio for about 7 years & still listen to Flaco Jimenez from time to time, and have actually been to Odessa- Go Panthers!
What's up with all the coaching departures?

Cordovox. The analog cousin of the digital accordion has been around for nearly 40 years.

The squeeze keys have a long and proud history..

Hmmm. I never considered accordions to be holy, until now.

I always learn so much on TB.
