I've been eating away @ every thread on TB regarding wireless and I'm basically down to these 2.

Sennheiser ew172 3G
http://www.zzounds.com/item--SENEW172G3
or
Line 6 G50
http://www.zzounds.com/item--X2DRELAYG50

Which one would you go for and why?

I use a G30, and I absolutely love it. There is no discernable difference in tone as far as I can tell, and the range is excellent (It says 70 feet w/ Line of Sight on the box, but I got it to work from across the street, about 100' away with the receiver in my basement and had no signal loss). My only gripe with it is the battery door on the transmitter itself, it's a bit finicky and doesn't latch all the way unless you close it a certain way. I have found it to be durable and it holds up to abuse pretty well- Mine went through a flood and worked just like it did out of the box once it dried out. If you have the cash though, a G50 would probably be even better; it's rated for a longer range, and it's a metal case instead of plastic, so it'd be even more sturdy.

They're pretty robust and fold flat against the side of your bass, or alternatively can be put on a little holster on your strap with an extension.

It is a very cool concept, but looks like you'd have to pay extra postage - now you know how we usually feel!

Looks like North America period. If only I had a british bud to do some cross-docking for me :P

... nobody likes Sennheiser eh? Is there usually a lot of interference going on? They seem sturdier, just a few more $$$

I have constant issues with the Line 6 battery box. Terrible design. I had ti replace the battery connector cable and now I have to tape the door shut. This makes fast bettery changes tough as you can well imagine. I would prefer the Senn if I could afford it right now as it uses AA batteries. My IEM is a SENN and it is very frugal on the batteries. My leade Gtr Pyr uses a Senn for his Guitar and loves it. different version i know but...

You must have an X2, the Line 6 in the poll is the newer G50 which doesn't take 9V (uses AA) and the case is metal.

That's a main reason I'm considering the G50 upgrade. That plastic compartment makes me worrysome at times.

I never had a problem with my X2's, of course they were never dropped or even mistreated in any way.

Also if you gig alot, the change to AA's will save a fortune especially if you head over to ebay and look for a cheap source of name brand AA's. I got 100 Duracell's (yes, real ones) with a 2016 exp. date for 31.98 shipped. So instead of about $1.50~$2.00 per gig with the X2/9V (I would end a gig with with about 1/4-1/2 a gig left in the 9V so I'd just pitch it half the time). Its only $0.32 per gig with the G50/AA (I easily get 2 gigs per pair of AA's).

At $1.20 savings per gig, thats $120 after 100 gigs... at 300 gigs the G50 unit roughly paid for itself.. I fully expect the G50 to easily make the 300 gig mark.

The FCC made my EW172 an outlaw so I got the Line 6 G50.
The G50 SOUNDS better, IMO(specsheets say so too if you compare them).

The G50 also brings with it(thanks digital age) useful signal metering AND battery life monitoring on the receiver. As your AA's deplete, a 3 green LED display goes to 2, then 1 and when you get close to trouble(5 minutes left) the remaining LED turns red and starts blinking. Used this feature once, changed batteries between songs. The 172 would've cratered as I'd have never known.

If you get the G-50, invest in the Shure WA-304 transmitter-to-bass cable with the angled 1/4" plug.
http://www.amazon.com/Shure-WA304-WA.../dp/B0002E1UTY
The Line 6 cable is a straight jack and not high quality.
Buy 2 and keep one as a spare.

Okay, so what about delay? I'm 30day-ing the G50... It's pretty noticeable at about 40' away.

Could that have been the environment or the unit? Is that common for pretty much all units?

Signal delay? I've had none IME's with any X2 units.

I've never noticed any (noticeable) delay with my X2 system... can't imagine the news stuff would be any different. Were you listening through your amp at 40' away or through a PA or something?

Yeah, I saw the extension cable option. Well done. I'm thinking the reason they aren't available over here is that they don't want to pay the FCC licensing. Unless they potentially interfere with other stuff and can't get licensed. May be more than just a postage issue.

Thats the speed of sound for ya... its not the G50, its the time it takes for sound to get to you. The delay you are hearing would be the same for a cable roughly.
