Wireless Transmitters

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been using a snap jack cable for live shows and although it sounds great it can be a bit annoying when I want to jump around. So my question is, do you find that wireless transmitters are better or worse than using cables? If they are better what are some good, yet affordable ones?

The new Line 6 wireless rigs are spoken of very highly in TB. The G30 seems to be a downright bargain, for what you get.

Better.
The Line 6 G50 here replaced an outlawed Sennheiser(the frequency band was sold by the FCC).
The Line 6, IMO, is better than the Sennheiser except I'm not sure if the Line 6 would cover a football field for high school marching band. The Sennheiser DID that for my son.

Get one and you'll never go back.

I too use the SnapJack cables, but was looking to go wireless. The only current wireless rig I even thought of was Line6's. Now that I'm not in a band, I could care less, haha.

I am using the G30 now and it is much better than the X that I have used for years. Last night I noticed a red flashing light on the receiver and realized that was the battery is dying light. I realized that to late LOL. Always keep a cable handy is my motot as well.

x2 can be found in the $80-100 budget... more than enough for what most of us do.

That is what I use and I just love it. Fantastic piece of kit.

That goes to show nothing is fool proof... edit: not calling you a fool though :-)

There are 4 stages in the battery indicator:
3 green leds, all good.
2 green leds, still ok
1 green led. Ok, but think of getting batteries.
Red steady led. Running low. Change battery... but you still have probably 45min to an hour, based on my experience.
Red flashing led... finish the song and get drummer to play a 2 min solo while changing batteries.

You do have to look at the receiver sometimes ;-)
Mine lives in my pedalboard.

Back to your question.. my gig rack includes methods for both wireless and wired at a click of the switch.. when possible I avoid the wireless... no need to add the variable if it's an acoustic duo..for my dance band it's always on.

PLan in for variables.

+1 on the pedalboard idea. Seems to make a lot of sense to me.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether 900MHz or 2.4 GHz carrier frequency would be better?

I never used a wireless. What are the opinions on sound quality of wireless vs. wired? I suppose, for a "big sound" dance band-higher volume show it may not matter.

The technology doesn't matter, what matters is what else is in the vicinity using that freq. Interference is the only real difference.
