Wireless Unit

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys

I am a pretty active stage performer, and I often find that on larger stages (the size that we like) I end up getting my cord tangled with my guitarists or yank it out of my amp. I want to get a wireless unit, but I have absolutely no experience with them. Any advice on good brands that don't kill the tone? What price range am I looking at here? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have this

http://www.shure.com/ProAudio/Produc...o_pg14_content

works fine for me, i can walk for like 2 minutes away from my amp and still get good sound without much delay... you have to get a couple hundred feet away to get delay anyway, i dont think a stage is that big... lol

it was around 300-400$ new

X2 (recently purchased by Line 6) makes a rackmounted wireless system, the XDR-95. This system doesn't use a compander (compress and then expand the signal on the transmitter and receiver ends respectively), but instead uses 28 bit A/D conversion and has a 10 Hz -20k Hz frequency response. JICYDK, for reference, the low E string sits at 41.2 Hz.

$499.99 pretty much everywhere, but music123.com has a sale on now where if you spend $500 you get $100 off; buy some picks to put you over the target; did just that a few days ago and can't wait to use it. This is, supposedly the system if you want to go wireless but refuse to alter/sacrifice your bass tone to do so.

Complete specs, reviews, etc. on their website.

Even the X2 portable wirelesses are awesome. There is only one flaw with the X2's...you have to have a good line of sight with them. I play this one regular gig where there's a wooden railing around the stage, and when I step in front of it, the signal drops out. But as long as you have a good line of sight between the wireless and your bass, they are the best wirelesses I've ever heard, bar none.

I have the X2 stomp box, and it's pretty friggin awesome. The signal is super clean, hotter than just a cable alone, and has pretty good range. It eats batteries, so be sure if you get the stomp you get an adapter (it's a simple 9v adapter, I had one lying around but had to resplice the plug because the polarity was wrong). Highly recommended.
