I am trying to clean up our stage wiring system for our guitar player. I'm having to deal with XLR to 1/4" cables to accomplish this task and I'm concerned with signal corruption. Here's what our old setup was:
We have a 10 foot Whirlwind 6 channel sub-snake (XLR) that runs from the mixer to the pedalboard. The acoustic guitars ran cords directly into the DI boxes on the pedalboard and then the XLR outs would run into this snake and go on to the mixer. An electric guitar had to run another cord from the pedalboard to the amp and then be miked up. Needless to say it was "spaghetti junction" on the stage.
Now all the guitars run through wireless transmitters to a universal receiver located at the mixer. From there I have to get the signal back to the pedalboard where the various effects/DI's are located. Then I have to get the effected signal back to the monitor/house board for mixing.
I IDEALLY want to use the Whirlwind sub-snake to be my sole connection provider for all signals coming and going from the pedalboard.
Ok - here's the plan.
1. The wireless receiver has both a XLR out and an unbalanced 1/4" out. I need to get this signal to the pedalboard. I want to connect a XLR female tip to XLR female tip cable from the receiver out to the XLR male input of the sub-snake (I know I would have to custom make this cable or get a female to female adapter). From there I would take an XLR male tip to 1/4" TS cable from the junction box into the pedalboard's A/B/C channel switcher.
OK, is this the best way to get the guitar signal from receiver to the pedalboard? Is it best to use the XLR out of the receiver or should I use the unbalanced out option and get a 1/4" TS to XLR female tip cable to get the signal to the sub-snake keeping the signal unbalanced all the way through? I want to maintain the cleanest signal possible.
2. The next thing is getting an unbalanced electric guitar signal from the pedalboard to the sub-snake and ultimately back to the amp. Can I use another 1/4" TS cable to XLR male tip to get the pedalboard signal back into the sub-snake junction box and then another 1/4" TS to XLR female tip cable to get from the other end of the snake to the amp?
Thanks. |
