Yorkville LS801P or QSC KW181...Which Should I Buy?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm going to purchase an 18" powered subwoofer. The choices are between a QSC KW181 and a Yorkville LS801P. Pricing is almost identical for both. What would the better choice be?

I'm purchasing one now and, hopefully, after saving a little more $$$ purchasing the other at a later date. I know both models are very well respected, but I would like to get your opinions.

Thanks in advance

The fully horn loaded Yorkville UCS1P is superior to both, and easier to haul. If you're buying used at any point, the LS801P will be easier to find as it is by far the most popular among the three.

Admittedly I have no experience with the QSC, but I'm sure it's good. QSC makes awesome stuff.

Having had an LS801P I can tell you that, unless your outside or in arenas, you will only ever need one, and it will rock your world. It does have it's own sound, but it's a great sound.

The only downside is that the thing is a monster. I had to build ramps to get it into the truck by myself. My back finally made me get rid of it. I miss the really low, disco thump bottom end, but the 2 NX750s pump good enough for what I do.

Big Yorkville fan as I own a pair of LS801P's and a pair of TX9s subs.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Yorkville LS801P has a highpass filter....not a crossover.
So if you are matching it up with a Yorkville High pack (EF500P) you are all set as the EF500P has a low pass filter that matches up with the 801P.
Any other brand of active high packs you will need an external crossover for your system as most other manufactures use a crossover in there active sub, sending only the high frequencies to your highpack......the Yorkie will send a full range signal.
As far as performance goes, the 801P stomps everything in it's price range.
If you don't mind the weight it's a great cabinet.

Have you ever listened to the ls2100p? I am on the fence right now trying to figure out if I want to go 2 ucs1p or 2 ls801p or 1 of the ls2100p cabinets. I cant demo them because no one near me has these so Its is by word of mouth. I will be using these with unity u15p tops.

the 2100 is incredibly deep and loud. It's pretty clean but still has the front load "warmth" thing happening. It's also pretty big and heavy.

If you appreciate the clarity of the U15P, stay with horns and go for the pair of UCS1P. I like the EF500P/LS801P or LS2100P combo a lot, but the Unity stuff sounds better with the Unity subs.

YMMV. I love horns.
