YOUR SOUND- do you do "both?"

lately ive had every other weekend alternating gigs- jazz trio, and psychedelic funk / jam band. the jazz gigs i always play 6 string active basses, into markbass amps, into boutique 2x12" cabs. very clean, deep, punchy, hi-fi sound. then when im doing the psychedelic funk/jamband gigs, i often "have too" use my passive 4 string fender p/j, into the same rig-however, with the VT bass left on the entire time (so essentially, into a slightly dirty "old school" sounding tube amp..)

does anyone else have to flip-flop their sound so much, or is it kind of "my sound is my sound?" up untill fairly recently i was always clean and hi fi, but now im enjoying having completely differnt tones depending on the gig..

so, do you do both?

I do have my number one(Alembic series bass with flats)..which I guess is "my sound"..but I also carry a passive P bass with round wounds for tunes that need a modern growl. So I have it narrowed down to two tools that will cover all the material I'm working with.
I use the same rig with both basses and only slightly adjust EQ to taste.
