I have lately beening playing alot of notes in the higher part of the bass (aroud the 7th 11th fret) on mostly the A-D-G string but i cna't seem to find any way to incorperate those higher notes past the 12th fret. Do you guys have any tips on how i could start to incorperate the octave up section in your playing or how you started playing in the upper register? When i learn a song i always take something from that song and use in my own music so if you could recommend a song, no just a riff(i don't want some 3 minute Jaco peice because i have tried that) where the most of the song is played on the higher notes(not just a couple of fills) thatnks guys
Brandon

He was joking, but like Jazzin', he said that's basically where you solo. |

I can't play up there, my fret buzzes and no sustain, think i need a setup.

Again, though, mostly for soloing |

and above 12th fret is not always soloing, try a song like Phantom Lord (Metallica - Kill Em All) that has a part above 12 in it, but only on the E string.
you can always try to transcribe stuff like the Sweet CHild O Mine intro (Guns and Roses) to bass notes and than play that somewhere over 12th fret..that's bound to include more than one string at least.

Learn scales and arpeggios across the whole range of the fretboard with different fingerings to really understand how everthing past the 12th fret relates to whats going on in places that you are more comfortable playing. |

You really have to have a song that calls for playing in that high register. And, IMO, most songs will call for a nice bass groove below the 12th fret. Writing some cool fills is a nice way to start incorporating the higher register. Other than that, check out some Victor Wooten tapping stuff. Tapping is a great way to bring out the higher register of a bass along with a lower register groove at the same time. |
