3 finger technique for slow tunes

I have a problem with slower songs. I kinda jump the tempo a bit. Well I sorta developed a picking technique. I alternate between using my Index and middle fingers in unison, with using my middle and ring fingers in unison. So IM,MR,IM,MR. It keeps my speed at bay and has a nice tone. I can't go very fast playing like that which helps for me when i need to keep it slow. Its been perfect so far. Has anyone else tried that?

i understand if that works for you, but going RMI RMI etc etc is the most efficient motion, and i think you can go the fastest that way. just a thought if youre up to advanced techniques, you know? otherwise, congrats. practice pays off.

EDIT: wait... am i misreading that? are you doing those patterns like double stops? if so., never mind; that seems just fine.

I play mostly 3-finger with the RMI pattern, but for some slow stuff and for technical songs that a I learned back in my 2-finger days I switch into an Middle & Ring / Index pattern. 3 fingers, but the Middle & Ring are used as one. 2.5 finger technique?

I find it very difficult to play with a strict 2-finger style now. I feel like I'm dropping notes everywhere and makes my right hand feel awkward. Doing this "2.5 finger technique" feels much more comfortable.

You are missing the point of playing bass when using a 3 fingers technique everywhere. Your tone and timing will suffer big time. Use 1 or 2 fingers and keep that 3 fingers technique for something else. If really needed !!!

I use IM together for an up-right bass feel on electric, it gives a great tone and stops the feel of a song being electric just by the technique being used.
Personaly i don't see the point of what you're doing, if it is slow enough and there is no need for the technique you are using, then it is purely for indviduality or the novelty of being able to do it, not because there is a necessity or need for it.
