3 Fingered Picking

Hi,

Just wondering what are some good excercises for 3 finger playing to gain speed and consistency. I also want to shy away from the triplet sound you get with 3 fingers.
What are some of the advantages of using 3 fingers rather than 2?

I use 3 fingers quite a lot in my playing and find more advantages in playing faster across different strings. I find that using three just on the one string it can be difficult to keep the rhythm steadier so then I will quite often go back to two fingers.

Triplets are far easier for me using three fingers than two also. The other obvious benefit is the ends of your fingers arent being used as much so dont get as sore!

I use 1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1, this way I don't get the triplet effect that I used to get with 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3 or 3-2-1-3-2-1-3-2-1.

I have tried that but it just confuses me and I can still play pretty fast with two fingers. Well, fast enough anyway.

i just recently started incorporating my ring finger. i havent read anything about it so whatever i do is my own take on this technique

i try to play sixteenth notes accenting every 4 notes.
I m r i M r i m R i m r
and so on, with the capitals being accented notes. when im actually playing i put less emphasis on the accents, and i use much different fingerings for rhythms that arent just straight sixteents or eights.
i hope i made sense?

i really like it, my hand doesnt get tired as fast as just using 2 fingers, and it lets me do cool little things like adding triplets or 16th note gallops like the metal guys with picks do all the time without much effort
