Alain Caron's slapping technique

Sign in to disble this ad
I've recently bought Alain Caron's dvd and i've been amazed by his slapping technique.

Anyone know how he does it exactly, it seems to be more than just the Victor Wooten double thumping technique? Only thing i'm sure is that he uses all of his fingers a lot when popping, but it's his thumb that i'm the most interested about.

I've always assumed it was double-thumping, but i've never really seen a video of him doing it

I'm gonna have to buy that DVD

I think Alain Caron's thumbing is more of a up/down (beneath strings) rather than Vic's thumbing which is almost like strumming the strings with your thumb as a pick. Alain Caron also does a whole lot more of that awesome leadline slapping, whereas Vic tends to play more bassline-oriented slap lines.

Man, that "Black Paws" groove in a fretless... just amazing !!!

About the technique... I dont see resemblenses with Vic's style (IMO), it seems like I plays the bass for a LONG time, and his thumb is just having sex with the strings: perfect and with just the right strenght :P

FYI - I could not get the links on Alain site to run using Mozilla. No probs with IE. Very odd. Great clips.

ALL the playing on that DVD is amazing, not just the slapping! The last track is just ridiculous.
For those wanting to buy it, Alain Caron's website seems to have switched the company selling them, and the service is much better. I tried buying a load of stuff earlier this year and it was a disaster and my order eventually got cancelled. This time everything arrived in a week or less!

Why does he anchor his ring finger on the pickup? Is the thumb doing normal double-thumping or the style geoffkhan explained?
