I say you hand him the bass and ask him to show you his skills. That only works if he doesn't know how to play. If he has skills don't do it.

He hasn't got any right to say that to you. The kid doesn't even play bass for starters. i bet he listens to Britney spears. no offence for any that does

I'm not a fan of using a pick either but i do on some occasions but i dont think its for pussys or ****** bass players there are plenty of great and i mean GREAT bassists out there that use a pick...the way i see it his the kids a ****** you have to get a try and get good at every technique you cant jsut play with you fingers or JUST play with a pick you need to experient a little and if he doesn't understand this kick his ass...

Garry Tallent is one of my favorite bassists, but to the best of my knowledge he plays fingerstyle.

It just depends how long you've been playing, I mean I've been playing for about 5 years and I DID play blink 182 at first.

Then I moved on to other things (progressive, Jazz, e.t.c)

Don't get stuck on one style forever.

Unless it's Jazz....

I don't agree with the bully at all. Play with what makes you comfortable, or gives you the sounds you're after. I play with a pick 75% of the time. Does he like Megadeth? Cause Dave Ellefson plays great bass lines...with a pick!

Tell to go f*** himself. He shouldn;t even be allowed to discuss technique with you. He's just jealous because he doesn;t have any talent to even bother trying to play, so he just picks on people to make himself feel better. He's the p****...

Look him right in the eye with a straight face and say "Gimme some Money".

This will throw him off for a moment.

Then, if he's the kind of dumb-ass I think he is, he'll say "Huh?" at least once.

Repeat the command until he asks "Why?".

Then say "Buy me a new Bass and I'll play it any way you want me to".

Let us know what his reaction is.

The bible says to repay evil with good.

Why doncha buy him a drink every time he comments on your playing? Maybe... You can add a little love to the drink as well to make sure he'll never come back to bother you again?

Sounds like he has a man crush for you. Next time he bugs you, tell him " I'm all for your lifestyle, but I just dont feel that way about you, I hope someday that you find that special man of your dreams." After that hold up your hand and say "rainbow pride". Please dont take any offence by my post.

Hybrids rule, tell him to shut up because he obviously does not know anything at all about music. Thats what I told one of the many people who have commented on me playing with a pick, and I'm in high school. He basically left me alone after that, plus, criticize music he likes. That is if you want to anger him, but thats not always the best decision.

Question Retarded...

Ok, here's what I think about the kid... He's retarded. His past lover is a female cleaning product, and his way of dealing with it is you.

Honestly, when it comes to playing, I started with a pick when I first decided to even play and instrument. But then again, a pick easily fits the genre of rock/metal, and such.

I mean, would it honestly sound the same if Shavo Odadijian did slap?

Being critical over finger-picking is about as dumb as being critical of the inability to tap every single note of the fretboard.

If you like what you do, and how it sounds, who cares? Sometimes I like to play my electric like an upright. Do I give a ****? Hell no.

My advice.... Reach down... there should be a pair of balls.
