annoying right hand fingering problem

so ive been having problems getting a good tone.... i thought i was playing sweet till i was playing with a band and we had to record some tracks in an informal setting... the person doin the recording kept pointing out that i was always hitting red on the thingo (im guessing it means that im peaking or whatever its called). since then ive been really conscious of the sound im making...

when i play sometimes my tone is really inconsistent...but the one thing thats really annoying me is that when i play 8ths and 16ths i get a hitting the string sound... the same sound u get if u just tap the strings.... if i start slowly and then build up the sound usually isnt there, but subtly creeps back in...

im playing a 5 string fender precision american delux... through a 1x15 65w ibanez practice amp

Don't worry - most poor sound engineers want to compress everything and suck all the life and dynamics out of your playing ...

Of course - control is desirable - but dynamics are important to live performance as well.

If you really want to kill your soul and change your style, you should slow WAY down and play like that for a while, to get a feel for it without "screwing up" while you do it. Like, without a metronome at first and then at the slow settings. That's good for getting out any kinks in your technique. But time consuming.
