Ok i know you guys get this kind of questions, so I apologize in advance. I recently started to pick up and learn double thumping (so called "Wooten" style) and have encountered an issue. It seems I'm not getting a decent enough slap tone, especially on the E string. Alot of the times, when I play lines the notes that come out of the E string sound muddy and soft, not percussive and loud like your typical slap sound. Has anyone else have this problem? Is it something to do with the fact I have to keep doing it, and eventually I'll be able to achieve that sound?
I use Daadario flats on Squier VM J (maple fingerboard). Will using super bright rounds or lighter gauge strings help? I actually tried double thumping on my second bass that are strung with rounds, didn't get much difference, is it a technique problem perhaps?
