Another "You Can't Hold No Groove" thread

Hey guys, I looked through the existing threads, but I never saw my exact question asked.

I'm trying to get the hang of this song, and I have the official tab book, but the tablature isn't really helping. There's a part throughout the song that is just tabbed as regular notes in the book, like this:

G:------0---0-0---
D:-0-3----3------3

I'm having trouble figuring out which finger/style I should be using for each note. The most common sense I've been able to make it like

Slap D:0
Hammer D:3
Index pop G:0
Slap D:3
Index/Middle pop G:0-0
Slap D:3

Has anyone gotten this song down that can provide me some insight on how to get the hang of this part? I can't quite get it.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, you've got it.
That's exactly how I did it and it came out just fine.

I play it just using thumb. I tried your method but found that it doesn't work for me. But remember, if it works for you and sounds good, it is good.

Hey, thanks for the replies guys!

So, for the latter two who replied mentioning thumb only, can you be a little more specific? For instance, the first three notes, (D:0-3, G:0), do you sweep through the D and downward pluck the G? Or do you up-strum it to be in better position to hit the open D again?

I'm not trying to learn someone else's perfect way obviously, but rather, just trying to see various ways that others have accomplished it and see if there's a good/better option that I haven't considered yet. A second set of thumbs never hurts, I guess?

Thanks again amigos!

I normally play it with the double pluck like you mentioned but now I'm thinking Vic plays it by strumming it e.g
Slap D:0
Hammer D:3
Index pop G:0
Slap D:3
Strum down/strum up G:0-0
Slap D:3

If you watch him he appears to be fretting the G on the 5th fret of the D string when he plays it, like this...
Strum down/strum up G:0-0
D:5-5
And all the percussive ghost notes through out the piece he is strumming too I think.
